Congratulations to the Class of 2019, who celebrated their commencement ceremony on June 1.
This class received scholarship and grant offers totaling more than $11 Million. After applying to more than 1,000 colleges, they will be attending schools and programs in 11 states plus Canada and England. Among their ranks is a Moreau Scholar, a Chick Evans Scholar, and eight Illinois State Scholars, ranking in the top 10 percent of all students in Illinois as determined at the end of their junior year. In addition, the class has won 14 Regional Championships in athletics, plus an array of competitions in Mathematics, Robotics, and Entrepreneurship.
Congratulations to our Top Ten Seniors: Valedictorian Karol Gonzalez, Salutatorian Evelyn Padilla, Maryfer Palacios, De’Jah Donahue, Anastasia Adjei, Star Brooks, Ahn Le, Boyang Dong, Melanie Montedeoca, and Armani Pace.
The 93 new graduates join the ranks of our distinguished HT alumni, now more than 8,000 strong. As Principal Marianne Lynch shared, we hope our newest alumni remember these four things wherever life may take them. “First, appreciate who you are and the gifts that God has given you. You each bring something special to the world. Be proud of who you are and make the most of the gifts you were given. Second, happiness is more important than material goods. If you focus all of your energy on wanting more, you never take the time to appreciate what you already have. Take the time to be grateful. Third, a mistake is often a gift, not a roadblock. It can help you rethink and refocus, finding a better way to achieve your goal, or even redefining the goal itself. Finally, remember that you have the power to transform the world.”
