Boys Track capture 4th Place, Girls 6th at the Chicago Prep Conference Outdoor Championship Meet on Sunday

Securing two individual conference titles and scoring points in all events with HT entries enabled the HT Boys Track team to capture a fourth-place finish at the CPC Outdoor Championship Meet hosted by Chicago Hope Academy. The relay squad (Akil Upchurch, Michael Monney, Lyle Gray and Josh Boahene) just missed taking the gold medal for the 400-meter relay with a time of 46.67 seconds. Despite limited practice, Michael and Omar Elane picked up 16 big points in the long jump with Michael taking the gold and Omar finishing 4th. Josh took gold in the century sprint with a state qualifying time of 11.37 seconds. Lyle contributed big points winning his heat, establishing a PR and placing 5th overall. Lyle would come back with a 3rd place finish and another PR in the 1 lap sprint. The timing went to four decimal places before the bronze medal winner could be determined. Nate Salas finished first in his 400-meter heat and 9th overall. Maishawn Washington added points with a 5th place throw in the shotput. The Tigers closed out the boys scoring with Josh crossing the line in 3rd place and Michael getting 6th place in the 200-meter sprint.

Lady Tigers (Michelle Robinson, Quaitrin Curtis, Zari Young and Jilene Velasquez) moved the baton around the track for a 2nd place finish in the 400-meter relay defeating several conference foes that had been working together all season. For the HT Lady Tigers, the excitement was just getting started. Zari and Jilene would finish 4th and 5th in the 100-meter sprint. Jilene stepped up in distance, taking on the 400-meter sprint challenge for the first time and getting the silver medal placing 2nd, earning valuable points for the team. Zari and Quaitrin ended the scoring for the girls with a 4th and 5th place finish in the 200-meter sprint. Quaitrin set a PR in her race. Like the boys, the HT Lady Tigers scored points in all events in which they had entries.

The boys have their final tune-up before the state sectional meet when they compete at the Carlin Nalley Invitational in Lisle on Saturday. The Lady Tigers will close out their season on May 12th when they return to Hope Academy for the 1A Sectional Meet

Go Tigers!
