Tigers in B-STEM and Computer Applications joined students nationwide in learning to code. Special thanks to research scientist Austin Clyde of Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Chicago for guiding our students through the national Hour of Code.

The Computer Applications students were being introduced to coding using Blocky-Games. This self-paced tutorial takes students from a basic, introductory level of blocky coding to being able to complete some basic code at the end of the series.

In B-STEM, students were working on an introduction to Python using “Code in Game.”

The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide. The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week.
