Congratulations to Mellanie for winning 1st Place in our division’s Cross-Country Championship!

Wondering if hard work pays off? Just ask Mellanie Barnes ’18. As a freshman, Mellanie was the Tigers’ sole cross-country competitor. After four years of perseverance—including running the school’s hallways during inclement weather, long road trips to meets and year-round conditioning—Mellanie finished her senior year’s season with accolades.

Mellanie took first at the Chicago Prep Conference’s Cross-Country Girls’ Varsity Championship on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Pooch Park in Skokie. She finished the 3 mile race in 20:54, marking the second time she’s finished that race under 21 minutes!

On October 21, Mellanie competed in the Class A Regional meet in Lisle and advanced to the IHSA Cross-Country Sectionals on October 28.

On October 28, Mellanie ran IHSA Sectionals, finishing with a personal best! She ranked 31st overall and did not qualify to advance but we are incredibly proud of her determination not only today but throughout the past four years.

During her time at Holy Trinity, Mellanie has been a trailblazer for her sport. We are proud of her dedication and excellence!
