From the Principal

We find ourselves with only 6 days left of regular classes, followed by 4 days of summative assessments. While no new classwork will be given after May 20, students will have an additional week to complete their summative projects or assessments and to make up missed work. Students DO sign into school on the exam days but will only have 1 or 2 class assessments. Please encourage your students to be persistent and do their best. The end is in sight and if they work hard now, they will soon have a well earned break!

All missed work is due from seniors no later than May 27. Many seniors have early finals as a result of the early AP exam schedule so this should not be a hardship. GPA calculations to determine Valedictorian, Salutatorian and Top Ten will be done on May 28 and I will notify those students that evening.

Students in grades 9-11 will have until May 29 to submit missed work. Given the light exam schedule beginning May 21, this should allow sufficient time for most students.

For all who require credit recovery, summer classes will be held online and will begin June 15, allowing for a little time away from the computer. Students and parents who need to do this will be notified and Chromebooks may be kept to allow for this work. If you know your student had a failing grade semester one, assume they will be doing this.

Please see the prior guidelines provided if you have any other questions regarding grades.

On a very different note, if anyone is in need of meal vouchers, please let me know. Additionally, Byline Bank will cash stimulus checks for non-customers at no charge. Be sure to check which branches are open as several have closed or only operate drive-throughs.

Take a moment to enjoy The Prayer and be safe and be well.

Class of 2020: Participate in ‘Graduate Together’

Seniors are invited to participate in a new, nationwide initiative called Graduate Together, anchored by education advocate and NBA legend LeBron James. This one-hour primetime event will be broadcast live and commercial-free Saturday, May 16, at 7 p.m., on all three major television networks plus FOX, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, PeopleTV, and Complex Networks. The lineup, curated by high school students, includes a broad array of leaders, icons, and entertainers, like Bad Bunny, Barack Obama, the Jonas Brothers, Lena Waithe, Malala Yousafzai, Maren Morris, Megan Rapinoe, Pharrell Williams, Yara Shahidi, and YBN Cordae.

We all have an incredible opportunity to recognize the Illinois Class of 2020 in this event, by sharing videos and essays with the production team. They’re seeking submissions from high school seniors, their families, and their educators, and they prefer landscape (horizontal) format. Even if your entry doesn’t make it into the show, it may be distributed through social media or follow-up stories.
