The Sandra Glorioso Scholarship supports young women who share their namesake’s commitment to education. Born with polio and orphaned at the age of two, Sandra persevered through many challenges in her life. In fact, she never missed a day of school in twelve years because she knew that an education was key to achieving a brighter future. After graduating from Mitchell Elementary and St. Columbkille High School, Sandra went to work at Dunn & Bradstreet and later Goldblatt’s Department Store. For more than seven decades, she was a fixture of Chicago’s Near West Side, where many Holy Trinity students call home. She served her neighborhood as an Election Judge and a member of the Welcome Wagon helping newcomers into the community.
Requirements of Scholars
In keeping with what Sandra stood for and valued, the following is required of the Scholars:
- Financial Need – The student must demonstrate a financial need and the inability to attend Holy Trinity without financial assistance.
- Academics – The student must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Attendance – Students must remain in good standing with limited absences and tardies.
- Extracurricular Activities – Students are required to participate as active members of at least one Holy Trinity extracurricular activity such as a club, organization, or sport.
An Invitation from Joe Glorioso
Joe Glorioso could be considered the first recipient of the Sandra Glorioso Scholarship, as his mother’s sacrifices made it possible for him to attend Holy Trinity. As an adult, Joe has worked tirelessly to provide Chicago’s youth the same opportunities because he knows firsthand the life changing power of the Holy Trinity experience. For nearly 20 years, Joe has served as the Head Coach of Holy Trinity’s Boys Baseball Program. In honor of what would have been Sandra’s 85th birthday on January 16, we invite you to join Joe in this important effort by making a gift.
