Dear Holy Trinity Community,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Brothers of Holy Cross, it is my great pleasure to announce that Elizabeth Torres has been appointed as Holy Trinity High School’s next President. Ms. Torres will begin in this role on March 26, 2025. She succeeds Brother James VanDyke, C.S.C., who has guided The School as Interim President since July 2024, and Timothy M. Bopp, who served as the President for 18 years.
Elizabeth is currently Assistant Principal of Academics at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago. She is an experienced and dynamic educational leader with over two decades of expertise in diverse and fast-paced environments. During her time at Cristo Rey, she successfully led initiatives to improve student outcomes, including increasing SAT scores and boosting GPA averages. She also played a key role in retention efforts, raising retention rates by 25%, while facilitating professional development and collaborating with external organizations to enhance the school’s academic programs.
Prior to her role at Cristo Rey, Torres served as the Associate Director of School Growth for the Cristo Rey Network, where she provided network-wide professional development for admissions departments across 38 schools and contributed to strategic growth initiatives. Her earlier experience includes positions at LEARN Charter School Network, where she managed large- scale professional development for teachers, and Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law in New York, where she held roles as Department Chair and Instructional Coach.
Torres’s career has been defined by her ability to implement data-driven strategies, enhance collaboration, and improve educational outcomes. She has a deep commitment to serving diverse student populations, including special education and underserved communities. Her leadership skills are supported by a solid academic background, with an Ed.M. in Teaching and Curriculum from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and she is currently pursuing an M.A. in Educational Leadership from the University of Notre Dame. Elizabeth’s appointment is the result of an extensive search process that began nearly a year ago with a Presidential Search Committee and the help of Carney, Sandoe & Associates. We are grateful to the members of the search committee, comprised of faculty and trustees. Their commitment of time to this effort was exceptional.
Finally, in announcing this appointment, we also want to express our enormous gratitude to Brother James VanDyke for his leadership as Interim President. He has demonstrated deeply rooted Holy Cross values and a commitment to our students, faculty, and staff. Brother James has pledged his enthusiastic support for Ms. Torres.
The Board of Trustees and the Presidential Search Committee are excited and optimistic about Holy Trinity’s future under the guidance of Ms. Torres. Please join us in welcoming her in her new role.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Hornig
