On Wed., Dec. 18, the Holy Trinity Boys’ Varsity Basketball team won its sixth straight game in a 51-47 overtime victory over Ida Crown. The HT Boys’ Basketball team is now 7-2 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Chicago Prep Conference (good for 1st overall in the CPC in this young season).

Freshman Jordan Harper (19 points), senior Elder Donaldson (13 points), and senior Drayton Williams (10 points) spearheaded the Tigers’ offense in the win. Harper was incredibly impressive all evening. HT’s starting PG had 15 points in the second half and overtime, as well as several steals and pinpoint assists. No assist was bigger than with the clock running out in regulation in the fourth quarter with HT down 3 points, 45-42. With poise and vision, Harper found Drayton Williams for a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to send a rollercoaster of a game to overtime and send the home crowd into a frenzy.

In OT, Harper got a clutch bucket and added three free throws, while senior Aiden Upchurch also added a free throw of his own. Those six OT points were enough to put HT over the top as they limited Ida Crown to only 2 points in the extra 4-minute period. The game was a complete team effort — which was needed, given the Aces jumped out to a 38-28 lead and had control of the game in the first half.

This win means a lot for the Holy Trinity Basketball Program, and for coaches Larry Coats, Herb Williams, and Abe Schwadron. For context, HT had been 2-7 in their previous nine contests with Ida Crown, including a 49-20 Aces win in one  year ago, in December 2023.

Next up for HT: an away tilt with Lycee Francaise today (Thurs., Dec 19); JV 5:30pm; Varsity 6:30pm.
