For the second consecutive year, the Lady Tigers take home the trophy on October 25, 2018.

After a sluggish start by Holy Trinity in the regional title match, HT regrouped and turned back the Titans of Disney II, who finished the season at 18-2 overall, by scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-21.

For HT, now 20-6, it wasn’t until the second full rotation of play, in game two, that the Lady Tigers secured the lead at 17-16 on a service point by Star Brooks (5 kills, 4 service points for the match) and the momentum swung in their favor. Next, HT’s Evelyn Padilla (4 kills, 4 service points on the night) followed with an unassisted kill and three service points to move the Tigers to a 21-17 advantage. This was followed by a match point serve by outside hitter Angela Ponce for a 25-21 game 2 win.

Game three was a back-and-forth affair, with HT’s Karol Gonzalez (11 service points, 17 set assists) sending the Tigers to an early 5-0 lead with five tough serves and two aces at the start of the game. A block for a kill by Cece Gardner (7 kills, 2 blocks) followed and HT led 10-8. But Disney, who seemed to always have an answer to an HT move, cut a Tiger lead of 14-10 into a oone-pointmargin at 19-18 late in game 3. However, Disney got no closer than 22-21 in this final streach, and HT hung on for the title and won game 3 by a final of 25-21.

HT SERVING TOTALS: 71 attempts with 63 made for an 89% average and 13 ace serves.

HT moved on to the 2A Sectional Semifinals, losing to Immaculate Conception in a 5:30 pm match on October 29 at River Grove Guerin Prep.

HT captured their second consecutive Chicago Prep Conference tournament title on Thursday, October 18, 2018 with a 25-20, 25-17 defeat of Walther Christian.

The Tigers were also co-champions during regular season action for the 2nd year in a row. Season standings saw four-teams tied for the top spot with 8-2 records: Walther Christian, which received the top seed in this just completed end-of-year tourney; HT (seeded #2); Northtown Charter (seed #3) and Hope Academy (seed #4).

Congratulations to the Holy Trinity All-Conference selections — Cierra Gardner, Karol Gonzalez and Moshay Turner— and Tournament MVP Karol Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, HT’s Junior Varsity team took home 3rd place in the CPC tournament on Wednesday, October 17. Congratulations to the team on a dynamic win.
